What We Do:
The aims of BSCT are:
- To encourage young people and adults in our schools to consider the Christian faith and its potential application in their life.
- To provide a bridge between schools and local churches - enabling schools to access resources from churches, and churches to engage with children from the schools.
- To provide an interesting and dynamic experience and understanding of God's Kingdom for all students across Beverley
Lesson Support
BSCT provides RE lesson support; for example, a Christian perspective on the St. Mark’s Gospel and ethical issues. We also provide sessions exploring personal faith and spirituality.
Pastoral Support
Pastoral support is delivered to small groups or individuals, supporting schools in helping young people overcome challenging issues.
- One-to-one mentoring
- Friendship groups
- Self esteem programmes have been developed with the aim of helping young people to improve their confidence and belief in their own skills and abilities, and to apply this to everyday situations. In these sessions we look at a variety of issues including assertiveness and the impact media has on the way we view ourselves.
- Anger management work is designed to help young people control and manage their anger and express it in an acceptable way, through providing a safe space to consider their actions and reactions.
Emerge
In Spring 2010 we launched Emerge in Beverley Grammar School (BGS), Beverley High School (BHS), and Longcroft School (LS). Emerge is a lunchtime club open to all students to discuss, debate and explore issues relevant to faith. These groups are run by BSCT in partnership with other Christian youth workers.Transition Support for Students moving from Primary to Secondary Schools
Each Summer term, BSCT is involved with the transition process from Key Stage 2 to Key Stage 3. We offer transition sessions to Year 6 to all Beverley feeder primaries. This area of support is enhanced by initiatives organised by the Local Authority in partnership with local churches culminating in the REaction days held in churches around the East Riding and attended by hundreds of students each year.
Faith Based Provision for East Riding College
During Autumn 2010, we worked with over 300 students at East Riding College (ERC) to explore faith and spirituality through debate and discussion. This success of this work is helping to develop faith-based provision in the college, encouraging students to explore their spirituality.
